Who is Eligible for Medicare?
Medicare and Medicaid are often confused. Simply put, Medicare is for medical coverage for those NYC residents 65 and older. Medicaid is a service provided for low-income individuals. However, some provisions allow for those with a disability to benefit from Medicare coverage. If you or a family member are younger than 65 and have recently been diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease), or ALS, are on dialysis, or have Lou Gehrig’s disease, then you may qualify for Medicare.
Other reasons you or your family member may be able to qualify for Medicare if you’re under 65 include if you suffer from a debilitating musculoskeletal condition that limits your mobility or have a cancer diagnosis. However, except for ALS and ESRD, most of these diagnoses require you to wait a minimum of two (2) years before being able to benefit from Medicare coverage.
If you have a family member with a disability, then our disability insurance in NYC services might help.

Do you qualify for Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans? Or maybe you’re not sure. You may qualify for low-cost medical insurance through the government or private insurers approved by the government. Some people are enrolled in Medicare plans automatically but others will need to sign up. You may also want to consider a Medicare Advantage plan, also known as Part C. Navigating these medical insurance plans can be confusing for anyone, but with the experts at Margolis & Associates on your team, it will be simple to find the best health insurance package for you.
There Are Four Parts of Medicare
The four parts of Medicare include Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. The Part A portion of Medicare provides coverage for hospital and emergency room visits. Part B provides outpatient medical coverage. Part C includes the Medicare Advantage plans offered by our Margolis & Associates insurance brokerage firm. Part C Medicare is administered by private insurance companies that are approved for Medicare use. Finally, Part D is for covering prescription drug costs.
How Much Does Medicare Cost?
The cost of Medicare depends upon whether you are taking part or using Part A, Part B, Part C, or Part D. For Part A, there is no cost for most seniors over 65. This is because you’ve been paying income taxes throughout your life to support the Medicare program. If you ever need to visit a hospital, Part A ensures your costs are covered. However, there are situations where someone does not qualify for Part A.
If, for some reason, you or a senior member of your family does not qualify for Part A Medicare, then you may be able to pay for it or buy it. For 2024, the cost to be part of Part A Medicare varies depending on how long you paid taxes before reaching 65. However, it’s important to note that if you don’t qualify for Part A – and must pay for it – then you must also sign up for Part B.
For outpatient medical coverage, Part B has a monthly premium that changes yearly. At Margolis & Associates, our insurance brokerage will explain the late enrollment penalties for Part B, how the penalty may be applied to your monthly premium, and how qualifying for the special enrollment period may allow you to avoid any penalties. We’ll also explain why you have to pay a one-time yearly $240 deductible as well as some of the additional costs for outpatient services should your policy not cover them.
Our Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) will help you or your senior family member provide much-needed protection and coverage for out-of-pocket expenses and portions of medical expenses not covered by Medicare Part A. We’ll ensure that you or your senior family member will get the right coverage with competitive monthly premiums. We’ll also outline some of the deductibles and copayments based on the type of plan we choose together.
The benefit of our Medicare Advantage plans is that they have a limit for your out-of-pocket expenses. Once you’ve reached that limit, the Medicare Supplement insurance covers those costs for the remainder of the year. If you or your elderly family member likes to travel, then we can help them find a Medicare Supplement insurance plan that can provide critical coverage while they’re out of the country.
Finally, there’s Part D, which covers prescription drug costs. At Margolis & Associates, we’ll explain why it’s important to have a Medicare drug plan the moment you’ve joined Medicare after 65. However, we assure you that we will help you choose among several Medicare Insurance plans that have competitive premiums and deductibles.
Ultimately, most of the Medicare Supplement insurance we provide comes with various deductible limits that must be paid out once a year. After this initial deductible limit is paid, the Medicare Supplement insurance takes care of the remaining costs. Of course, this depends upon the type of drug prescription you’re provided and what they’re for.
Choosing among the many Medicare Supplement plans can seem somewhat confusing. However, our insurance brokerage specializes in helping our NYC customers choose among these plans.
